We now have the ability to record your set when you play a show at The Wire. We use ProTools and will mix your set and provide you with an audio CD. The fee for this service is $30. You will be able to pick up your CD the weekend following your show.
Here are some suggestions to help your band save time (and money) in the studio.
Practice your songs until you know them inside and out. And then practice some more. Everyone should practice with a metronome.
Have all lyrics, harmonies, leads, fills, etc. figured out before you come into the studio. Don't try to make it up as you go.
Figure out the tempos in beats per minute for each song.
Be able to play to a click track.
No matter how good you are, your recording won't sound professional if you're unable to play to a click.
Put new strings on all guitars and basses and new heads (top and bottom) on all drums.
If you have sketchy equipment, try to borrow something better but be sure to practice with it before you record.
If the engineer makes a suggestion, please listen. Recording is different than playing live and the engineer knows what's going to sound best on CD, even if it is not what you are used to (drum tunings, distortion settings, etc.).
Bring a tuner, extra strings, extra sticks, and typed out lyrics for all songs.
DON'T BRING FRIENDS, GIRLFRIENDS OR BOYFRIENDS, FAMILY, FANS, ETC. TO THE STUDIO WITH YOU. This will only distract you from playing your best, slow down the recording process, and cost you money. |
